Stafford, Earls of Stafford and Dukes of Buckingham

Or, a chevron gules. Badge: the Stafford knot.

The old Stafford line came down through the Dukes of Buckingham. The 3rd Duke was beheaded in 1521; his son Henry was created Baron Stafford in 1547, and Mary Stafford became heir of the line.
